His Royal Highness The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh

On behalf of the members of the committee of Bishopswood Village Hall, Herefordshire, and residents of Bishopswood we offer our sincere condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal family on the passing of her devoted husband His Royal Highness The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh.

A man of the times, a visionary who devoted his life to the service of Her Majesty, Great Britain and the Commonwealth, a man of action who served this country with distinction during its most difficult times as a serving member of the Royal Navy.

A wry sense of humour that was sometimes misunderstood, with an underlying mischievous sense of humour that allowed him for that moment to become 'one of us'.

The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme is without doubt the best example of his forward thinking in engaging the younger generations in achieving goals that possibly they never thought they could achieve and changed many young lives for the better, as a young man he led by example and as an older man by experience.

His imitable spirit of adventure, duty and love of life is a legacy that will endure for future generations to 'take up the baton.'

We thank you for your service.
